Formed in 2015, the Prescott Chorale has a well-earned reputation as the pre-eminent chorus in our area, performing new and old major works, commissions, collaborations with schools and colleges, and its support for up-and-coming singers through its Young Artists scholarship program. Seasons typically consist of three subscription concerts and callouts to perform at special community events.
Prescott is located in the North Central Arizona highlands. It is a city of 50,000, with three colleges and a nationally acclaimed aeronautical engineering university. Prescott is a performing arts mecca and home to numerous vocal and instrumental music groups of various genres. It also successfully supports a variety of large and small live theater offerings. This charming city and the surrounding area of around 120,000 residents is steeped in history and natural beauty. It is situated in the mountains approximately 90 miles northwest of Phoenix.
Prescott has a vibrant arts and music scene as well as a variety of outdoor adventures. Visitors can explore the iconic western town center, hike the scenic trails of the Prescott National Forest and the pre-historic boulders, or enjoy the serene waters of five small lakes. With its mild climate and welcoming community, Prescott offers a perfect blend of Western heritage and modern amenities, making it a hidden gem in the heart of the Southwest.

Prescott Chorale believes that Artistic Directors are the eminent creatives within their fields, possessing a wealth of knowledge, experience, and professional connections to draw upon in leading their organizations. They play a crucial role in the development and execution of artistic programs and projects. As such, the Board of Directors is seeking an experienced, proven choral conductor who can successfully execute the duties and responsibilities of the position.
The Artistic Director shall:
General
Develop and implement the artistic vision and focus of the Prescott Chorale.
Select or approve the selection of a variety of musical performance pieces to be produced, including those requiring orchestral accompaniment.
Oversee the creative aspects of production.
Collaborate with the marketing team to promote performances and events.
Recruit, mentor, and evaluate artistic staff and performers.
Preside over rehearsals and provide creative input.
Programming
Organize an annual performance schedule including subscription concerts, outreach concerts and tours.
Conduct auditions twice annually.
Design each concert performance including theme development and integration of guest artists, ensembles, soloists and instrumentalists.
Write narratives as needed for concert projects.
Supervise the identification and contracting of technicians and musicians for each concert project.
Audition, select and coach soloists and small group ensembles.
Supervise the Accompanist.
Development and Finances
Engage with the community and foster relationships with potential partners, sponsors, and donors.
Actively participate in the identification and development of relationships with donors and potential donors, including foundations and local businesses.
Ensure the financial sustainability of the organization by working with the Board to develop and manage the financial health of the organization.
Communicate regularly with the Chorale Board and other chorus leadership.
Attend Board meetings and provide a monthly report to the Board.
Network with other arts organizations, music directors, and community groups to increase the visibility of the Chorus and to encourage collaboration.
Professional Competence
Maintain and update professional competence by attending workshops, classes and conferences.
Review new choral works and recordings; read professional journals.
Identify, coach, and supervise the activities of Chorale section leaders, Assistant Director, Accompanist.
Attend concerts of other choral organizations.
Stay abreast of current trends and developments in the arts sector and incorporate relevant ideas into Prescott Chorale’s body of work.

Requirements
Required Qualifications
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Bachelor’s degree in choral conducting, vocal performance, or a closely related field.
Strong pedagogical and instructional skills in vocal production and performance for Chorale ensembles and individual singers.
Demonstrated proficiency in choral conducting, teaching vocal ensembles, and coaching singers.
Expansive knowledge of choral literature in a variety of genres, musical eras, and styles.
Piano Skills.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
A clear understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and goals of a professional community chorus.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional experience as a performer, choral and orchestral conductor.
Experience creating and managing a budget for planned musical projects, concerts, and festivals.
Successful experience promoting a music program, actively recruiting performers, sponsors and donors.
Strong interest in and commitment to community outreach, offering a variety of performance opportunities.
Prior experience working with a semi-professional adult chorus.
This is a contract position for one year and may be renewed for additional years.
