Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The associate director of proposal development drives philanthropic revenue for the university by managing proposal development for major gift ($100,000-$1,000,000) fundraising across the university. The associate director¿s focus will play a critical role in generating revenue for the university by creating compelling proposals that advance major gift strategies and solicitations. Working under the direction of the executive director of national development, and in collaboration with development leadership, the associate director manages all proposal development services for $100,00-$1,000,000 donors and prospects across the university.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Collaborate with development leadership, development officers, and university leadership across campus to research, write and produce individual funding proposals and concept papers for major gift ($100,000-$1,000,000) donors and prospects. Draft all necessary cover letters, follow up letters/emails, and materials to support the solicitation process. Collaborate with faculty and university administrators in program and budget development. Articulate in writing the university's highest priority funding needs, programs, and projects as determined by the president. (75%)
Manage execution of a comprehensive proposal development program to support major gift fundraising efforts, primarily for individual donors and prospects but to include corporations and foundations as needed. (20%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Evaluate the effectiveness of the proposal development program in relation to established goals, implementing changes to effect continual improvement in services. (5%)
Perform other duties as assigned. (<1%)
CONTACTS
Department: Frequent contact with executive directors, senior directors, directors, and other department and university relations and development staff as required to perform essential functions.
University: Contact with the President's Office, Provost's Office, development officers, senior staff in colleges and management centers, faculty and staff as required to perform essential functions.
External: Direct contact with trustees, donors, and alumni as required to perform essential functions.
Students: Direct contact with scholarship recipients and other students as required to perform essential functions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No direct supervisory responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: 5 or more years of professional experience; experience in dedicated writing or writing intensive position, development and/or higher education preferred.
Education: Bachelor's degree required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Exceptional writing proficiency is required as is a high standard for accuracy and efficiency, including strong proofreading and editorial skills.
Ability to adapt writing to various styles to reflect the true voices of senior leadership.
Must demonstrate proven ability to identify and resolve problems and generate appropriate responses to complex issues.
Attention to quality and detail are essential.
Outstanding communication and creative skills required. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.
Flexibility, tact, approachability and responsiveness are required. Ability to discreetly handle sensitive information is essential.
Demonstrate ability to review, integrate and accurately synthesize large amounts of data and new information.
Ability to recommend improvements to processes as needed.
Available to work outside of regular office hours as required. Ability to meet consistent attendance.
Computer proficiency, with broad knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and donor database(s). Ability to learn new programs.
Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
WORKING CONDITIONS
General office environment, some evenings and weekend hours will be required.
