Position Summary | The Portland State University Library seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Cataloging, eAccess and Metadata Manager to join the vibrant community of Oregon's most affordable and diverse research university. This position will lead our dedicated team in the integral work of creating and providing high quality resource description and ensuring seamless electronic access to our dynamic library collections. The Cataloging, eAccess, and Metadata Manager provides leadership, coordination, guidance, and technical expertise to the staff of two Library units, Cataloging and eAccess and Digital Initiatives, and is committed to fostering a welcoming and supportive work environment. As manager of both units, the position is responsible for day to day supervision of staff members and workflows. The manager guides and coordinates sustainable and efficient strategies and priorities for addressing unit responsibilities and ensures the application of current cataloging and resource management standards and best practices, including activities in the shared integrated library system (SILS), through training, workflow design, planning, shared documentation, communication, and collaboration. This position also leads unit staff in the process of identifying and applying appropriate metadata standards for digitized and born-digital materials in the library's institutional repository and works closely with the library's Open Scholarship Librarian to establish and maintain back-end workflows to support repository collections and projects. The manager may work with unit staff to directly address urgent or prioritized cataloging or metadata issues as needed. This position serves on library management committees and participates in library-wide initiatives and planning activities. The manager works closely and proactively with other library units and positions such as Acquisitions, Collection Development and Management, Special Collections, and the Electronic and Continuing Resources Librarian on shared projects, goals, and responsibilities. When appropriate, the Cataloging, eAccess and Metadata Manager represents the library through participation on Orbis Cascade Alliance teams and work groups and in other activities related to institutional and consortial needs. The Cataloging eAccess and Metadata Manager is committed to staying current and informed on evolving trends and developments impacting cataloging, electronic access and metadata in academic libraries including an understanding of emerging technologies and tools, changes to standards and best practice, and developments in metadata management and linked data for digital assets. The manager uses their professional knowledge and expertise to guide planning and implementation for their units and for the library and to connect unit staff with relevant professional development resources and opportunities. Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement | Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity. The starting annual salary for this position will be $68,004 but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR. An excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
