Description
The Chief Executive Officer’s is responsible to:
-Oversee staff and lead and manage the day-to-day operations and administration of the Association. Recommend and participate in the formulation of new policies and programs.
-Plan, organize, direct, and coordinates staff, programs, and activities of the Association to assure that objectives are attained, plans are fulfilled, and members’ needs are met.
-Determine and lead legislative lobbying efforts.
-Maintain effective internal and external relationships.
-Manage the budget, assure value for expenditures made, and develop forward-looking programming and constructive growth of the Association.
-Participate in the management of the MMA associated organizations including MTMedPAC, the MMA Foundation and management services contracts.

The best candidate for this job will be one who has strong leadership, communications, and interpersonal relationship skills. This person should have the ability to plan, perform effectively in complex and difficult environments, and achieve success through others. Other key attributes of this person include the ability to take calculated risks, manage change, deliver results, implement vision, and share power. This person should be biased toward thoughtful action, constructively tough minded, an efficient reader of people, and pragmatically inclusive. Knowledge of organizational management, financial management, human resources, administrative law, federal and state advocacy, media relations, and the medical field are necessary for this job.
CEO Knowledge and Abilities
Juris Doctor degree or Master’s degree in business administration (MBA), public health (MPH), public administration (MPA), or related field or equal experience and training is preferred.
A minimum of fifteen years of professional work experience along with a minimum of five years of senior level executive experience in leading/managing a healthcare organization.
Demonstrated success in leading, planning, and organizing the operations of a complex organization. Experience in a highly visible advocacy and public information organization, facing a range of legislative, regulatory, and public relations challenges is preferred.
Ability to build coalitions and develop appropriate action plans having to do with the critical issues confronting today’s physicians.
Healthcare industry experience/knowledge is required. Knowledge of such basic healthcare issues as the following: current and future challenges of providing access and care in a rural/frontier state, quality of care, health care systems, patient safety, financing of health services, reimbursement (government and private payers), other regulations, contracting issues, collaboration, competition, and the roles of government and the private sector regarding the organization, delivery, and financing of care.
Exposure to/familiarity with the Montana healthcare market is quite valuable and an asset but is not a requirement.
Management experience within other healthcare professional associations and/or other not-for-profit organizations is a strong plus.
Must possess strong relationship building skills. Proven success in establishing and maintaining working relationships with diverse groups both internally and externally. He/she should foster collaboration with internal staff as well as with the public, media, community leaders, government leaders, leaders of the state’s component medical societies as well as with the leaders of the various associations within organized medicine.
Proven ability to develop consensus and promote collaboration on controversial issues.
Ability to attract and retain highly qualified individuals to the MMA staff.
A skilled negotiator with the ability to motivate and manage.
Polished presentation, persuasion, and public speaking skills with a comfort level to appear before government regulatory bodies and other forums to articulate the MMA’s position on a multitude of issues.
Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
A proven track record in building membership programs is a strong plus.
