DIRECTOR, HUMAN RESOURCES

POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the Director of Human Resources (HR) is responsible for translating business needs into integrated HR solutions as well as develop, lead, and implement people and culture focused initiatives that align with the organization’s strategic plan. The Director of HR also provides advice and guidance to the CEO and program directors in all aspects of human resource management.
Our ideal candidate is an innovative and collaborative HR professional who is passionate about downtown Winnipeg. We are looking for a leader who excels at developing trust-based relationships and has a demonstrated strength in balancing strategy and execution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement HR strategies that foster a high-performing, inclusive, and engaged culture that aligns with organizational goals.
- Provide coaching and advice to program directors and managers to enhance leadership capability.
Talent Management
- Create recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to attract top talent and ensure we are operating at appropriate staffing levels.
- Oversee performance management, succession planning, and leadership development programs.
- Drive initiatives for employee learning, training, and career growth.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Cultivate a positive workplace environment that promotes trust, collaboration, and inclusion.
- Provide recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors for remedial actions to address any risks or gaps identified in the annual engagement survey.
- Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives and advise on organizational change management efforts.
- Advise managers and employees on conflict resolutions and employee relations, ensuring any corrective or disciplinary actions are aligned with relevant legislation and organization policy
Compensation & Benefits
- Oversee the design and administration of compensation, benefits, and recognition programs.
- Perform regular market data analysis to ensure compensation and benefit programs are competitive, equitable, and compliant with applicable laws.
- Oversee the administration of medical leaves, including workers' compensation claims.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Develop, maintain, and ensure adherence to all HR policies and procedures.
- Manage HR-related risk, including workplace investigations and regulatory reporting.
- Ensure the Health and Safety Committee maintains compliance and is fully supported.
HR Operations and Department Management
- Provide direction, coaching, support and developmental opportunities to the HR Generalist.
- Manage HR admin budget, assist managers with annual salary projections, and provide backup support for payroll administration.
- Provide quarterly reports, analysis and recommendations that inform key business decisions and initiatives.
- Support grant applications pertaining to funding for staff positions and training.
- Provide support to both the employee DEI and the Board’s Governance and HR Committees.
Requirements
- Degree in Human Resource Management and a minimum of eight years progressive HR
leadership experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and active
holder of the CPHR designation. - Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations and HR best practices.
- Proven ability to design and execute HR strategies that align with organizational goals.
- Exceptional leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing organizational change from HR perspective.
- Strong skills in employee relations and conflict resolution with excellent written and verbal
communication. - Demonstrated proficiency in policy development, documentation, training, and implementation.
- Proven ability to create reports and apply data analytics to effectively inform decisions and/or
drive change initiatives.
