Job Summary
The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University is seeking a strategic, creative, and collaborative leader to serve as the Director of Brand Strategy. This is an opportunity for an exceptional leader in marketing and brand management to advance one of the top brands in business education and contribute to the school's continued success. This role will drive the development, execution, and ongoing management of the Kelley brand strategy across the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses, ensuring distinction in the market, consistency across Kelley, and alignment with the IU brand.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Leads a team of professionals focused on brand story, brand communications, and social media.
- Shapes Kelley's brand position and voice, delivers compelling narratives that reinforce the school's reputation for excellence, innovation, and impact in business education, and strengthen brand awareness and reputation; includes the development and implementation of an earned media strategy and thought leadership communications, that refine and advances Kelley's global reputation.
- Brands performance and measurement, and ongoing brand health research and refinement.
- Reports to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications; holds a seat on the marketing and communications leadership team and works in a matrix organization that requires strong collaboration and teamwork across various functions, including Enrollment Marketing Strategy, Content and Creative, Digital and Web, and Marketing Operations.
- Works closely with the Executive Director and peer leaders to ensure brand alignment in each function and with the Kelley's vision, mission, and strategic goals.
- Develops and leads a comprehensive brand strategy that elevates and protects the Kelley's reputation locally, nationally, and globally.
- Serves as the lead steward of the Kelley brand, ensuring consistent messaging, tone, and visual identity across all channels, marketing and communications functions, departments, etc.
- Leads periodic brand research and analysis to assess brand health and inform strategic direction.
- Oversees the creation and maintenance of brand guidelines and toolkits for internal stakeholders.
- Leads a team of professionals dedicated to the advancement of The Kelley School of Business brand and reputation, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, continuous improvement, compassion, and a genuine interest and passion for brand work.
- Mentors staff and builds strong, collaborative partnerships within the marketing and communications team and across the school.
- Develops and executes brand strategies, brand story, communications, and social media strategies that are in alignment with and in support of Kelley's mission and strategic objectives.
- Directs operations for the marketing and communications function by providing oversight and direction within a department, large multi-faceted department, or multiple departments.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, sets goals and objectives, determines staffing needs, and directs the work of a team of Marketing Generalists and/or Marketing Assistants.
- Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders; determines marketing needs, projects, and programs to align with objectives and goals and supervises processes such as the development of marketing timelines related to such initiatives.
- Independently develops, evaluates, and executes basic and highly complex strategic marketing plans for a department, functional area within a department, or large, multi-faceted department to advance goals and objectives, including data collection and market research, target market definition, development of project timelines, sourcing of promotional materials, and marketing content creation.
- Responds to escalated and complex inquiries and requests from direct reports and stakeholders; acts as a resource and explains policies, procedures, and programs.
- Assists in budget planning and administration for marketing initiatives, including expenditures, revenue projections, and project and program costs.
- Regularly researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty; monitors industry trends and best practices, makes process and operational and strategic recommendations to manager, and assists in implementing procedural changes.
- May provide guidance to lower-level Marketing Leaders.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations, or related field
Required
- 4 years in relevant field
- 1 year of management experience in relevant field
- 10 years in relevant field.
- Experience in developing, executing and managing brand strategies successfully
- Experience in brand-building initiatives, including (but not limited to) creating highly engaging digital experiences, storytelling, and thought leadership

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
