Job Title: Director of Buildings and Grounds
Building: District Office: 12-month position
Report to: Superintendent
Start Date: January 2026
The custodial/maintenance supervisor shall function under the direct supervision of the superintendent and shall be responsible for the total operation and supervision of the school physical buildings and grounds. The goal is to keep all the buildings and grounds in peak educational status.
Salary and Schedule: Contract runs July 1st - June 30th yearly, Monday through Friday, year round - Starting salary based on experience: $68,000 minimum
Qualifications:
Knowledge of buildings and grounds safety and laws related to school properties
Skill in building and plant maintenance and management to include knowledge and skill in plumbing, electrical, general construction, and equipment repair
Ability to supervise department personnel and work cooperatively with school administration
Ability to organize and manage own time so as to complete all supervisory, maintenance and custodial tasks
Ability to maintain accurate records as required by the school district and state of Wisconsin
Possession of a valid Driver's License
License as a plumber or electrician preferred but not required
Experience managing custodial staff (preferred)
Job Summary and Responsibilities:
Assure that buildings and grounds are cleaned regularly and maintained in a manner that will protect and extend the life of the buildings while providing a stimulating educational environment
Maintains buildings and grounds in a condition that will promote good public relations and instill pride in the educational facilities
Managing day/night custodial staff, summer custodial staff
Addressing custodial staff issues, approving time off, managing staff schedules
Assures that all vehicles, materials, tools, and supplies are stored in a safe, orderly fashion
Assures that flammable materials are stored in a metal cabinet
Amount stored shall not exceed insurance company's recommendation
Assures that a current inventory of all maintenance and custodial supplies, fuels, parts, tools and materials are maintained
Assures that snow from doorways, sidewalks, playgrounds, and parking lots are removed
Assures that all lawn, shrubs, and trees are maintained at a reasonable or prudent level
Assures that all maintenance equipment is maintained and makes requests for additional equipment to the superintendent
Performs duties as hazardous waste coordinator in accordance with WI. Stat. 144 and Wisconsin Administrative Code NR 181
Serves as the Chemical District Safety Coordinator
Conducts regular inspections of the buildings and grounds
Performs all duties as asbestos coordinator (designated person) in accordance with all applicable federal and state regulations
Aids the superintendent in writing bids and making contracts with vendors
Recommends suitable supplies, tools and equipment for purchase
Make recommendations to the superintendent for improvements of buildings, grounds, vehicle management, records or general operation of the school district's maintenance and custodial departments
Recommends, helps establish and supervise schedules of custodial staff
Carries out procedures for the regular ongoing custodial care of all buildings, facilities and grounds of the district
Assists in preparation of annual budget for maintenance and operation
Performs in a timely fashion, all reasonable duties assigned by the superintendent
Assure PTO (Permit to Operate) for all elevator, lift, boilers, chillers, & backflow
Annual inspection Fire Alarm System & Building Sprinkler system
Designated Asbestos Coordinator
Annual inspection of RPZ ( backflow valve)
