JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Corporate & Major Gifts is a key leadership role within MFAN’s advancement team, responsible for cultivating and securing major philanthropic partnerships that fuel the organization’s mission to serve military-connected families. Focused on gifts of $50,000+, this individual will lead corporate and major gift strategy and relationship management, operating within the military-serving nonprofit space and shaping partnerships that advance national well-being and security.
The Director will identify, engage, and steward corporate and individual major donors through tailored cultivation and solicitation strategies. They will collaborate closely with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), CEO, grants contractor, and Director of Government Relations, as well as colleagues across MFAN’s finance, programs, and insights teams. The Director will supervise the Philanthropy Coordinator and grants contractor and provide support to the Board Development Committee.
This role is ideal for a seasoned fundraising professional with a strong track record in corporate partnerships, major gifts strategy, and collaborative execution
POSITION TYPE / HOURS OF WORK
- Full-Time, Exempt Position
- Hours: Standard hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Monday–Thursday and 8a.m. to 2 p.m. ET on Fridays, unless otherwise approved by the department lead. There will be occasions when extended hours are required due to events, travel, meetings, or other requirements.
- Location: As this is a fully remote position, candidates are expected to have a dedicated workspace and access to high-speed internet.
- Travel: Candidate will be expected to travel approximately monthly for donor meetings and events.
Requirements
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Major Gifts and Corporate Partnerships
- Lead MFAN’s strategy for securing gifts of $50,000+, with a focus on corporate and major donors.
- Build and manage a robust pipeline of prospects using research, relationship mapping, and CRM insights.
- Develop and implement customized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies aligned with donor interests and MFAN’s mission.
- Create compelling proposals, partnership packages, and impact reports tailored to funder goals.
- Manage a portfolio of active relationships, ensuring high-touch engagement through meetings, events, briefings, and personalized communications.
2. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with the advancement team to align messaging, strategy, and goals.
- Partner with program and insights teams to craft compelling, data-informed narratives for donor proposals and reports.
- Liaise with finance and advancement operations coordinator to ensure accuracy in gift documentation, reconciliation, and revenue tracking.
3. Internal & External Leadership
- Supervise Philanthropy Coordinator and Grants Contractor.
- In partnership with the CAO, liaise with the Board Development Committee, supporting board engagement in fundraising and strategy.
- Represent MFAN at key meetings, industry events, and partnership forums.
- Contribute to department-wide advancement planning, performance tracking, and strategic growth.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in nonprofit development, with demonstrated success managing corporate partnerships and major gifts.
- Proven track record securing and stewarding six- and seven-figure gifts.
- Exceptional communication and proposal development skills.
- Strong relationship-building and project management abilities.
- Comfort working across teams and functions in a remote, fast-paced environment.
- Experience in or familiarity with the military-serving nonprofit space is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with donor CRM systems and Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Passion for MFAN’s mission and commitment to strengthening military family well-being.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Military affiliation (e.g., military spouse, veteran, or military family member).
- Existing experience working with stakeholders in defense, military family policy, or related fields.
- CFRE certification and/or advanced degree is a plus.
