Position Summary
The SCWA Education Programs Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of all SCWA education initiatives, ensuring alignment with SCWA’s mission and program goals. This position supervises and supports all Education Department leaders — including the Camp Woodie Program Coordinator, Camp Leopold Program Coordinator, and Heritage Program Coordinator — to deliver exceptional outdoor education and wildlife conservation experiences for youth and adults.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide vision, leadership, and proactive consultation for the Camp Woodie, Camp Leopold, and Heritage programs to ensure high-quality, mission-driven educational experiences.
- Directly supervise all Education Program Coordinators and Facilitators, providing ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development.
- Oversee the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of qualified Education Department staff with a passion for SCWA’s mission.
- Ensure all programs meet or exceed American Camp Association (ACA) standards, state and federal regulations, and SCWA policies.
- Lead the ACA accreditation process for all applicable programs and maintain compliance with standards.
- Collaborate with Education Program Coordinators to develop and implement annual business plans, program budgets, and strategic plans, ensuring financial and programmatic goals are met.
- Lead weekly Education Department leadership meetings to review safety guidelines, program feedback, marketing strategies, staffing updates, financials, and business plan progress.
- Stay informed on industry best practices, ACA standards, and changes affecting youth development, outdoor education, and wildlife conservation.
- Develop and oversee annual performance review processes for all Education Department leadership roles.
- Work with program leaders to assess and improve program quality annually through survey analysis, operational reviews, and updated procedures.
- Maintain a strong presence across all program locations, providing hands-on support when needed.
- Participate in weekly Executive Management Team meetings led by the CEO.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong knowledge of camp operations, outdoor education, and ACA standards.'
- Proven leadership and team management experience, including supervising multiple program leaders.
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
- Ability to develop budgets, analyze financial reports, and manage resources effectively.
- Commitment to SCWA’s mission, with a professional and ethical approach to leadership.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Outdoor Education, Recreation Management, Environmental Studies, or related field preferred.
- 7 - 15 years of leadership experience in outdoor education, camp administration, or similar program management, with at least 5 years supervising other leaders or program managers.
