POSITION SUMMARY
The Lab Manager directs the operations for the organic chemistry teaching labs; assists in the maintenance of the department chemical inventory and instrumentation; teaches two courses each semester during the academic year (fall and spring semesters) supervises student workers, as needed; and helps coordinate student workshops.
This is a full time 10-Month position with an annual work period of August 15th- June 15th.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job duties specific to this position:
Lab prep (academic year)
- Support the development of pre-lab slides and grading rubrics, in collaboration with full time faculty;
- Secure supplies & reagents, set-up equipment, etc., for weekly labs
- Oversee student workers, as needed;
- Serve as contact-person for/communicate with/disseminate information to lab instructors (including adjuncts)
Teaching
- Teach two sections of organic chemistry lab each academic semester (fall and spring), unless staffing permits teaching in other area(s) of expertise (e.g., physical chemistry lab).
Department Instrumentation
- Assist with routine maintenance, troubleshooting;
Department Chemicals and Stockroom
- Assist with maintenance and organization of supplies and chemicals for teaching laboratories.
- Assist with the annual inventory of chemicals in the department if it occurs during the academic year.
- Assist with the management of chemical waste in collaboration with the Environmental Health and Safety Officer;
- Assist with the routine maintenance/oversight of instrumentation and compressed gasses.
Lab Safety
- Assist with creating and posting appropriate safety signage;
- Assist with the safety training for faculty, staff, students, in collaboration with the Environmental Health and Safety Officer;
- Assist with the routine checks on stored chemicals.
- Support student academic success by helping to schedule relevant workshops.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in chemistry or related field from an accredited university/college.
- Experience in laboratory and instrument management.
- Experience with chemical inventory and stockroom management.
- Undergraduate teaching experience in the relevant chemistry lab courses.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Pay Range: $45,000 - $48,500 annually
