Description
This is a career ladder position. Applicants may choose which position for which they would like to apply, and categorization will be made the by interview panel depending on their qualifications and experience. Applicants selected at the manager level have the opportunity to move to the director position after at least one year of service, dependent upon demonstrated capability and proficiency in the role.
Manager:
Total Salary Range: $40,000 — $60,000
Hiring Range: $40,000 — $52,000
Director:
Total Salary Range: $65,000 — $90,000
Hiring Range: $65,000 — $78,000
The advertised Total Pay Range and Hiring Range represent a good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this position. The advertised ranges are not a promise of a particular wage for any specific candidate. When negotiating compensation, the MotCP Hiring Manager or Director will consider multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.

This role is eligible to be hybrid/partially remote.
Purpose/Role
The essential goals of the Manager of Finance are to:
- Provide support to the Director of Operations for all financial components of the museum including accounts payable, payroll, and grants.
- Serve as a gatekeeper for financial and administrative transactions that aligns with the MotCP Fiscal Management Policy.
- Provide supervisory oversight of any staff or contractors serving the MotCP’s Finance Department.
The essential goals and role of the Director of Finance are to:
- Provide financial oversight for all financial components of the museum including but not limited to accounts payable, payroll, grants, budgeting, accounting, etc.
- Serve as a gatekeeper for financial and administrative transactions.
- Provide functional and supervisory oversight of the MotCP Finance Department.
Responsibilities/Tasks
Manager:
- Payroll processing.
- Reporting: Create reports on a regular basis and as requested by the Director of Operations and Executive Team. Provide requested reports and/or documents to auditors.
- Audit: Support Executive and audit teams with reports, backup, explanation and anything necessary to complete the annual audit.
- Budget: Enter budget as provided by Executive Team and create budget to actual reports.
- Administrative: Support Executive Director and Executive Team with correspondence and record keeping as well as reports for Board of Directors.
- Coordinates and facilitates resources to assist in the financial management of the organization, including emergency situations as they may arise.
- Responsible for the oversight and management of employees and the financial work of all organization employees with access to the organization financial system.
- Assigns work as necessary to staff to comply with regulatory and/or programmatic changes that impact the organization.
- Provides oversight and direction to applicable employees due to regulatory and/or programmatic changes that impact the financial systems and processes of the organization.
- Performs departmental needs assessments and reports to the Director of Operations.
Director:
Duties described above, and:
- Budget: Prepare budget and create budget to actual reports.Lead the development of the annual budget. Assist with budget forecasting.
- Provides professional development and training on financial systems, policies, procedures, and internal controls for all employees with access to the organization financial systems.
- Conducts interviews, hires, supervises, trains, evaluates performance of, and approves performance-based salary increases, scheduling and other responsibilities for subordinate staff.
- Coordinates policy/procedure development within the organization to ensure effective financial oversight and management of financial resources to comply with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, standards and regulations.
- Responsible for the accurate and appropriate enforcement and implementation of the personnel policies and Financial Accounting Policies & Procedures of the Organization.
- Develops strategic and operational plans in collaboration with key stakeholders of the organization.
- Mediates and facilitates conflict resolution between staff and between staff and the public when the need arises.
- Consults with departments and staff to create goals, timetables, and reporting procedures.
- Consults with all MotCP departments and other entities to ensure compliance with applicable fiscal management regulations.
Requirements
Skills/Knowledge/Qualities
Manager:
- A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.
- Prior management experience required.
- 5 years of related work experience in organizational accounting and public financial management is preferred.
- Understanding of the requirements, regulations and standards of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), public accounting, public budgeting, other applicable laws and policies of the State and local laws regulations and standards.
- Ability to work continuously and accurately with figures; perform arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division; accurately compare and transcribe figures.
- Advanced skill with Microsoft Word and Excel.Experience with QuickBooks preferred, or other financial accounting software.
- Professional and personal style consistent with the philosophy and team-oriented culture of MotCP.
- Ability to work independently or as a support person as needed.
- Ability to multi-task and organize responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to communicate with others and to assimilate and understand information, in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.

Director:
The skills and knowledge required above, with the additional requirements of:
- A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.
- 3 years of related work experience in organizational accounting and public financial management is preferred.
Other
Manager:
- Reports directly to the Director of Operations
- Provides supervision of all Finance Department employees and contractors.
- Other administrative duties may be assigned as needed.
Director:
- Reports directly to the Executive Director but works closely with the entire Executive Team.
- Provides supervision of all Finance Department employees and contractors.
- Other administrative duties may be assigned as needed by the Executive Director.
