The mission of VCU’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is to maximize philanthropic support by engaging stakeholders with our institution working in partnership with all VCU schools, programs and campuses as one development and alumni relations community and implementing the best practices and efficient strategies to achieve a comprehensive development program.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Prospect Development for Medical Philanthropy, the Prospect Research Analyst assists in identifying and prioritizing new and existing donors and prospective donors; collecting, compiling, verifying, and analyzing biographical and financial information; and using database and reporting tools to track major gift prospective donors throughout the cultivation process. This role will expand our prospect research support for the VCU Medical Philanthropy team and will be vital to the successful launch of our patient philanthropy program. The successful candidate will demonstrate an appreciation for the mission and aspirations of VCU and VCU Health and a strong commitment to organizational success and delivering on individual responsibilities as a university citizen.
As the Prospect Research Analyst for Medical Philanthropy, you will:
- Support gift officers to identify, prioritize, and track major gift prospects.
- Conduct regular wealth screenings, validate wealth screening data, and update constituent records as needed.
- Conduct targeted financial and biographical research on constituents to inform the development of cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Synthesize information into insightful and accurate research products.
- Prepare materials for and participate in biannual portfolio consultations with gift officers.
- Assist with the creation and implementation of new/enhanced policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Review confidential patient records to ensure adherence to HIPAA.
- Meet, maintain, and exceed the standards set forth by Apra, always adhering to ethical and confidentiality guidelines.
- Work in a collaborative team environment, sharing knowledge with the prospect development team.
- Participate in professional associations.
- Provide recommendations on prospect research policies, procedures, and needs. Assist in evaluating and maintaining resources and training opportunities.

Requirements
Minimum Hiring Standards:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and work experience.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently.
- Knowledge of Google Workspace or equivalent work tools
- Proficiency in using online resources to find and verify information
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to navigate complex working environments with multiple stakeholders
- High level of customer service with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external audiences
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards:
- Experience with Blackbaud CRM and/or other fundraising databases.
- Experience working with confidential or private information.
- Knowledge of or experience with prospect research, preferably in the context of higher education and/or healthcare industries.
