Description
The Technical Director is responsible for switching fast-paced live news, pre-taped shows and segments, and original programming which may include live special events. The TD is a leader among the technical crew in the control room who communicates effectively with our editorial, engineering, and design partners.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Call and punch live and recorded broadcasts, special coverage, and breaking news using Ross Overdrive Automation.
- Accurately receive instructions from Director to call up cameras, remotes, graphics, video, still images, and various other sources. Route sources/images to studio monitors.
- Code, organize and execute newscasts and specials using ENPS based rundowns.
- Build and customize OverDrive coding for news productions, working closely with producers and technical staff to enhance automation efficiency.
- Collaborate with news, production, and engineering teams to ensure smooth operations and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Ensure clean transitions between segments, graphics, and live elements by effectively managing production automation programs.
- Actively contribute to SOP, workflow, and show report documentation.
- Adapt to last-minute changes and breaking news, making quick decisions under pressure.
- General knowledge of studio lighting, Streamdeck, OBS, Dejero, Optic, Chyron, Bit Central, and Cue-Script a plus
- Other duties including Robotic Camera Operation, Media Coordination and A2 relief duties as assigned.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Must be organized and methodical
- 4+ years of experience as a Technical Director in a live news environment
- Expert-level proficiency with Ross OverDrive automation and strong ability to build, edit, and refine show coding.
- Experience with Ross XPression graphics, and other production switchers is a plus.
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills and the ability to work with engineering teams to resolve production issues.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with a proven track record of working effectively in a collaborative newsroom environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as news coverage demands.
- Fast learner and adaptive to new workflows and key commands
- Creative problem-solving
- Able to perform all duties under high stress situations and conditions.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
Compensation
$58.07/hour+ commensurate with experience and skill level
