Description

Faculty Position Executive Medical Director/Chief Medical Officer - VPCH

The University of Vermont College of Medicine and the University of Vermont Medical Center are seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level on the clinical scholar pathway to work at the award-winning, state-of-the-art Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital. The Executive Medical Director/Chief Medical Officer will join an existing team of hospital psychiatrists to provide inpatient care and training to residents and medical students. The Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital (VPCH) is owned and operated by the State of Vermont but is staffed by faculty psychiatrists from UVM.

The University of Vermont College of Medicine Psychiatry Service hosts medical students on clerkships and electives, sponsors a residency in psychiatry, and sponsors a fellowship in child psychiatry. There are highly developed research programs in substance use disorders, child psychiatry, chronic pain, neuroimaging, and suicide risk assessment. This faculty member will be a key participant in the education of trainees at several levels.

The selected candidate will demonstrate the training and expertise to provide physician and clinical leadership, direct patient care, collaborate with other professional disciplines, and work with referring agencies and providers. In addition, they will be responsible for the oversight of clinical, legal and quality improvement processes, clinical supervision of psychiatrists, house officers, medical students, and other staff. An appreciation of the importance of and satisfaction from performing these critical functions and an ability to work collaboratively are essential.

Applicants must have a medical degree and be board certified in psychiatry. Previous inpatient psychiatry, physician leadership experience or forensic fellowship is very desirable.

VPCH is adjacent to Central Vermont Medical Center, a University of Vermont Health Network general hospital, in Berlin, Vermont. Located in the heart of the Green Mountains, central Vermont is a great place for families, boasting excellent schools and year-round recreational opportunities. Burlington is a forty-minute drive. Montreal and Boston are within easy driving distances.
