Summary:
BlackPast.org is an online global educational resource that provides accurate, accessible information about African American and global Black history. The organization is seeking an experienced part-time Marketing & Development Manager to lead the nonprofit’s fundraising and brand awareness operations. This role is part storyteller, part fundraiser, part project manager that communicates impact, manages campaigns, and keeps donor pipelines organized.
The Marketing & Development Manager plays a key role in advancing the organization’s mission by facilitating fundraising efforts, managing communication strategies, and ensuring the organization’s brand and message are consistent across platforms in order to broaden reach and creatively defend Black history.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Marketing & Communications (50%)
Raise awareness and increase support for BlackPast.org through social media channels via planning, execution, and coordination with external partners; Develop and schedule content for social media, newsletters, and website updates Create marketing materials such as flyers, impact stories, annual reports, and collateral Create a branding guideline and social media toolkit that includes logo design/refresh, fonts, color palette, and best practices guidance and maintain brand consistency across all communication channels Track engagement metrics and adjust strategies to improve reach and impact Work with Communications Committee, Executive Director, and executive board to ensure alignment of overall messaging and storytelling efforts Help to identify and cultivate best messengers for earned and paid media Help develop and execute mass communications, newsletters, e-blasts, visual messaging, social media and earned media strategy including press releases, rapid response statements, op-eds, reporter briefing memos, fact sheets, and other critical communication materials Prepare organizational representatives media appearances and debates, including providing media training, talking points and support
Fundraising & Development (50%)
Manage daytoday donor stewardship, including personalized thankyou messages, donor updates, impact reporting, and sponsorship outreach Maintain and update donor records, giving histories, and segmentation lists in the CRM Support the development of donor pipelines, including identifying prospects and cultivating new supporters Work with the grants writer to conduct grant research, identify new funding opportunities, and assist in drafting grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports Coordinate fundraising campaigns, yearend appeals, and special initiatives Track fundraising metrics, campaign performance, and donor retention data Support major donor outreach and facilitate overall implementation of fundraising plan Collaborate with the Executive Director to maintain a development calendar and provide general administrative support as needed
Requirements
Desired Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Fundraising, or related field Strong earned media, communications, social media management, and graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Express, or similar) Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently Collaborative approach and strong ability to incorporate feedback from coalition members and impacted communities Familiarity with donor management systems (e.g., Bloomerang) Proven fundraising abilities Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with attention to detail Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate historical content into accessible public messaging Prior nonprofit experience is a plus but not required Submit your resume, a brief cover letter, and two fundraising writing or marketing samples to [email protected] with the subject line “Marketing & Development Manager – Your Name”.
