Altarum is seeking aSenior Director, Health Research and Insightsfor its Population Health division to lead our Health Research and Insights practice, overseeing and leading projects and portfolio growth, supervisingand mentoringstaff,providing operational and financial inputsto leadership,maintaining client and partner relationships, leadingselectproposals and business development efforts, providing support to your division leader (VP)and providing thought leadershipin your area of expertise.This role reports to the VP, Population Health, and serves as a member of the enterprise-wide Leadership Council.
Responsibilities:
Business Development
Develop and maintain relationships withfunders and partnersand work on strategic growthwithinthepractice area anddivision
Monitor, identify, and pursue opportunities through new, extended or expandedgrowth
Develop relationships with external contacts, consultants, and experts in the fieldto help furtherorganizationalgoals and fulfillAltarumsmission.
Leadtechnical proposalsand contribute to level of estimate and staffing plans
Help to identify and train staff to contribute to proposalsand work on the new opportunities
Conceptualize and contribute to writing proposals
Review draft proposals
Gather intel to inform Go-No-Go decisions about funding opportunities; respond regularly to decisions impacting your practice area and lead practice area discussions on weekly opportunity review meeting
Collaborate with the VP, Growth, to maintain an accurate and up-to-date pipeline
Evolve practice area capabilities from primarily quantitative research portfolio into a mixed-methods portfolio that couples research and analytics findings with insights and experience design to provide customer experience (CX) and employee experience (EX) journey mapping and strategy services (including patient, veteran, and other key health audience experiences)
Practice, Project and Client Oversight
Leadand manageaportfolio of health-focused research, analytics, and experience insights contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements
Provide support topractice arealeadershipand provideoperational, project and financial input foryour portfolioofprojectsand clients
Develop and maintain productive relationships with clients,including developing appropriate approaches to addressing client concerns and pain points
Work with direct reports to monitor and track your teams project execution to ensure budgets and timelines are met
Implement quality assurance and control processes for project deliverables and services
Review and quality check projects,preparemonthly statusreportsand financial reports
Prepare presentations and conduct in-process reviews withleadershipand client staff
Identify subcontractor needsandsources,reviewstatements of work andmonitor subcontractor performance
Oversee development of project plans and resources estimates,including planning level of effortprojectionsfor projectsin your portfolio;set objectives, develop project work plans, establish milestones, and assign tasks to staff to fulfill scope of work
Track and deliver KPIs (key performance indicators)
Thought Leadership
Contribute to and lead publications, conference presentations, webinars etc. in your area of expertise
Write and publish blog posts and thought leadership pieces for Altarum and others as applicable
Participate in strategic planning and visioning sessions and lead ad-hoc strategic effortsin your areas of expertise
Team Leadership
Coordinate with other Project Directorsand managersto ensure that staff are allocated appropriately as needed across projects
Provide constructive feedback and guidance
Discuss and document professional development goals and progress
Address performance issuesand discuss areas for growth
Identify projectsand opportunities and structure taskingto provide growth and professional development
Coach on problem solving to address issues as needed
Qualifications
10+ years of relevant work experience in public health - managing federal and/or state contracts
Bachelors degree and/ormasters degree in a related field / MPH or PhD preferred, but not required
Assertive and persuasive communication (written, verbal, and listening)and ability to publish and present work products and thought leadership pieces
Experience leading responses to RFP/RFI/RFQ for Federal, State and Philanthropic opportunities
Experience building new relationships and maintaining strong partners
Analytical and critical thinking skills
People management and leadership skills to mentor staff for personal development and encourage team-oriented collaboration
Strong qualitative and quantitative research study design skills, especially with survey research
Experience translating research findings into journey maps and actionable insights for health (or other government) organizations to improve experiences for veterans, patients, clinicians, and other end-users
Expertise and experience in health data analysis, such as economic and policy analysis related to healthcare
Logistical Requirements
At this time, we will only accept candidates who are presently eligible to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship.
Our organization requires that all work, for the duration of your employment, must be completed in the continental U.S. unless required by contract.
If you are local to our offices in Arlington, Silver Spring or Novi, this role will be hybrid (in office on Wednesdays - collaboration days).
Must be able to work during eastern time unless approved by your manager.
Employees working remotely must have a dedicated, ergonomically appropriate workspace free from distractions with a mobile device that allows for productive and efficient conduct of business.

Individual compensation packages are based on numerous factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. This salary range is not a guarantee of compensation, as the final offer amount will vary based on these factors.
