Description
Purpose Statement:
To plan, coordinate, and manage the district’s comprehensive student support programs. This role ensures that all students have equitable access to a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment by overseeing student health, attendance, discipline procedures, counseling, and crisis response systems while ensuring compliance with state and federal education laws.
*Essential Functions:
Student Support & Wellness Programs
- Holistic Services Oversight: Manage and evaluate district-wide support initiatives, including special education services, school counseling, social work, mental health services, and health/nursing services.
- Crisis Management: Coordinate the district’s crisis response team, threat assessment protocols, and suicide prevention/intervention programs.
- Wrap-Around Supports: Partner with community-based organizations, public health agencies, and social services to provide wrap-around support for vulnerable student populations.
Student Conduct, Discipline & Due Process
- Policy Implementation: Oversee the implementation of the district’s student code of conduct, ensuring restorative justice practices and equitable disciplinary measures are utilized across all schools.
- Discipline Hearings: Manage and facilitate formal student suspension and expulsion hearings, ensuring strict adherence to student due process rights and state regulations.
- Alt-Education Placement: Work with building leaders and support alternative education placements or manifestation determinations for students requiring specialized behavioral settings.
Student Records
- Student Records: Ensure district compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regarding the maintenance, retention, and archiving of confidential student records.
Compliance, Equity & Reporting
- Civil Rights Compliance: Support compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title IX, and McKinney-Vento (Homeless Assistance Act) provisions, ensuring equal access to education for all students.
- Data Tracking & Reporting: Collect, analyze, and present student demographic, attendance and discipline data to state education agencies and the school board to address disproportionality.
Other Functions:
- Work collaboratively with building leadership and building office management to access key information and insights regarding student attendance, disciplinary issues, and opportunities.
- Promote appreciation for diversity, to include diverse opinions as well as cultural and racial diversity.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years of successful experience in school administration, student counseling, social work, or managing district-level student support initiatives.
- Deep knowledge of state and federal laws regarding student rights, discipline, FERPA, McKinney-Vento, and Section 504.
- Strong background in healing centered care, Restorative Practices, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
- Exceptional conflict resolution, mediation, and de-escalation skills to navigate sensitive situations with parents, staff, and students.
- Excellent data analytical skills to identify trends in student behavior and attendance.
- Technologically proficient, with highly qualified knowledge of Microsoft Office, Skyward, and Google Workspace tools.
- Effective communicator with demonstrated ability to engage with community partners, families, school board members, and staff.
- Proven leadership in organizational development, staff capacity building, and fostering a positive, respectful work culture.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet programming and community engagement needs.
- Significant multi-cultural experience and cultural competency strongly preferred.
